Police State
I think stories like this one need a MUCH larger airing.
My only response can be to say that Police violence needs to be met head on by positive action from society. If you think this is being overly paranoid or too proactive just wait until you are randomly harrassed by the police for listening to reggae, going to a mosque, being seen with 'blacks' or the most common, BEING black!
The police ARE a political tool, and right now everything that can be done in the political sphere to destroy Aboriginal and Islander peoples IS being done.
Would the same thing have happened if it were a white girl? And if the same did occur, would the story have been relegated to a niche, government funded news resource?

violence due to the police is never ending in the U.S. wish it would stop but unfortunetly that's the world we live in
An Australian black panther party leader, Dennis Walker once tried to take an unloaded rifle into court arguing that if Police were allowed weapons in the room, why wasn't he?
A famous line he was fond of using was 'We need to meet Police violence with violence'.
I don't agree with the need for return violence, but the current state of affairs MUST change.
a little off topic, but when talking about what would happen to a white girl vs. black girl.. in the U.S. you get ppl going crazy and sending out the 'amber alert' when a child is taken... but so often when it's a black child, you don't get the same response.
the police are really bad in the states, especially in the southern cities/states. racism is alive and well in these parts and the cops do all they can to live up to a 'good ole boy' reputation.
